Carl Gustav Jung coined the terms “Anima and Animus” a century ago, in the early 1920’s. To date much has been written, discussed, and debated about these two concepts. Those interested in Jungian psychology know that integrating the Anima and Animus (the syzygy) or The Sacred Marriage, is an essential aspect of the Jungian individuation journey. But what does this actually mean? This course explores the concepts of the Anima and Animus in depth, as they are conceptually difficult to grasp and challenging to understand. One of the main reasons for this confusion is that the Anima and Animus are both Complex and Archetype. This course offers a phenomenological and experiential approach, which is a profound and effective way to not only grasp but integrate Jungian theory.

What Does The Course Focus On?

The focus of this course is the practical application of Anima and Animus theory in your own psychological being and interpersonal relationships.
This course will take you through the journey of integrating the Anima and Animus, not only as part of the shadow work process, but also sharing the concepts of the archetypal aspects of Anima and Animus so that you have an understanding of the ultimate goal of integration.
The five key areas of focus are:


01 ANIMA AND ANIMUS AS COMPLEX:
Exploring interpersonal aspects

02 DYSFUNCTIONAL ANIMA AND ANIMUS:
Identifying personal maladaptations

03 ANIMA AND ANIMUS AS ARCHETYPES:
Exploring archetypal functions

04 ANIMA AND ANIMUS AS INFERIOR FUNCTION:
Unconscious qualities

05 ANIMA AND ANIMUS IN ALCHEMY:
Alchemical work of The Sacred Marriage

Who Is This Course For?


This course is for anyone who wants to:

* Understand how Anima & Animus act in the psyche.

* Get an overview of the complete Anima & Animus theory.

* Actively work with their Anima & Animus.

* Learn the practical techniques of integrating the Anima & Animus.


How Does The Course Work?

The Sacred Marriage is an online programme, and runs for 10 weeks, starting on the 6th of October, 2025. The course includes both elements of working through the material on your own, as well as interacting with others on the course on private school forum. There will be one live Zoom session during the course, which will be recorded and made available to view.  

All learning material is made available in our online school, for you to access -- and consists of a podcast and PDF reading material.   At the beginning of each week you will receive access to the week's material, as both a podcast and transcript, focusing on one of the five respective elements we will be covering in the course.

Group work and guidance with the applications are facilitated on the private and confidential Course Forum included in the course.  Forum participation is optional, but please note that should you elect not to participate on the Forum, you will miss out on the shared experience of the community and facilitation on the course.
